New home, new friends, new.....annoyances? Pests? Stupidity? Yes.
So me, my son, and my fiancée recently uprooted ourselves from our beautiful, warm, somewhat bug free Southern California to hot, dry, infested Houston, Texas. I knew living here would take some adjustment, new neighborhood and what not (oh yeah...new state). I also knew that the roads here are different. I mean who would have thought that getting off the freeway meant getting on to some random highway that only goes one way? Annoying btw. I mean come on how hard is it to go wherever the eff you need to go right off the freeway? But NO, I have to get off the freeway and either keep going straight or I have go through this retarded turn around thing that leads me to the other side of the freeway. I hate it. I just wanna get off and either go left or right and be on my way. Don't even get me started on the sidewalks...or lack there of. The other day, I took a walk with my son in his stroller and headed toward the bank. It was a beautiful day so I thought, what the hell, the bank is two seconds down the street, why not walk? Well........I found out. First of all, there are no sidewalks here. I had two choices: either walk in the street, or, walk on the grass. Grass is pretty harmless right? So there I was trudging through the thickest grass I'd ever experienced, pushing my son in his stroller, in flip flops...I really need to invest in some sneakers or something. Anyway, Texas doesn't believe in sidewalks I guess. Second, most of the cross walks are retarded and almost non existent. The first one I got to, worked but lasted about two seconds then the big red hand was telling me to hurry the hell up and cross the street. Then under the freeway I went and I reached the second crosswalk, this one didn't even work. I pushed that stupid like five thousand times and nothing happened. I had to wait until all the cars turning right onto the highway cleared to go...apparently the pedestrian does not have the right of way here. The third cross walk was working just fine, but the people coming out of the parking lot didn't know how to wait for me to get either completely across the street or they didn't even give me a chance to start crossing. I had to cross for about ten minutes because my first attempt was eff'd thanks to this lady who didn't even notice I was waiting to cross the street and turned right so fast that I had to pull myself and my son's stroller back onto the sidewalk...you can guess what would have happened if I hadn't done that. My second attempt was ruined by an a-hole making a left...ugh long story short I'm never walking anywhere in this town ever again. Now let me tell you about my apartment. It's a small one bedroom, which according to Texas law is supposed to be for two people tops and maybe a new born baby. But this apartment complex rented it to us anyway. First night..roaches. Second..more roaches. EWWWWWWWW On the third day, I went to the office and complained, they sent some goofy looking dude with a big bucket looking thing of bug spray and he sprayed the whole apartment. It's my 2nd week in this apartment and guess what..no more roaches. Ants have invaded instead. These ants have decided to get cozy underneath our "new" carpet. Thank god this lease is for only 6 months...they sprayed the apartment again today, I had to show the bug dude how you can lift up the carpet....and he found the cozy ant home and the big crack leading outside where they come in from...I think it's easy to say that my ant nightmare is no where near over. Summer months are on their way! Here's 100 degree weather, dry/humid days, and more ants..yay me!
